Round-up: 29th February 2024

The first Liverpool Soup of 2024 went down a treat! And so did the bowls of soup!

We are in our fifth year of being inspired by our local community and we are so pleased with the turnout this time round! If you were lucky enough to come, you would have seen our brand spanking new impact report brought together by our own Joseph and Abbie! Which you can now read here. You can now have an in-depth insight into what Liverpool SOUP is and why we, and many others, believe it to be important.

Now, let’s cast our minds back to Thursday, 29th February and “leap” into the roundup! 🐸

Meet the pitchers...

Soul Mumma

Graciously kicking off the night was Soul Mumma!

Soul Mumma runs on the values of self-care, self-love and creative mindfulness in order to boost social, emotional and mental wellbeing for women, families and adults. Primarily based in L8, Soul Mumma aims to teach about mental health and wellbeing, and the importance of recognising your emotions and treating yourself with kindness.

With demand for their service at a high in their community, Soul Mamma requires arts and crafts supplies to help facilitate workshops. If you would like to support them, do consider donating supplies or spreading the word about mindfulness in the community.

You can connect with them via their website and Instagram

Woodwork for Wellbeing

We also heard from Woodwork for Wellbeing, a woodworking course held by BYC (Build Your Confidence) Liverpool. Starting as a ‘women only’, Woodwork for Wellbeing gained so much interest from their community, that they had to open it up to everyone!

Its mission is to empower and improve independence by teaching learners new skills they once thought they could not do. So far, they have taught over 60 women basic woodworking skills since they opened 4 years ago.

Fancy getting involved with BYC Liverpool? You can volunteer, donate or attend a paid tool fundraiser course, or even sponsor a community course; or just simply follow them on Instagram.

Farms for City Children

Throwing their proverbial hat in the ring was Farms for City Children. Run by Walton Youth & Community Project, Farms for City Children wants to give the opportunity of working on a farm to the children of the community so they can learn where their food comes from.

Providing a once in a lifetime experience for the children, after seeing the impact of last year’s cohort, they want to show more children an alternative life outside the city. We were lucky to be greeted by two members of last year’s Farms for City Children and saw the impact first-hand!

To support this project and WYCP, you can sponsor WYCP in your next fundraising event, volunteer and share and follow their socials via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

And the winning pitch is...

SOLA ARTS!

2024’s first winning pitch is SOLA Arts, which is a participant-led charity who are passionate about supporting vulnerable and displaced people.

For the past six months, SOLA Arts have trialled their new project of making their support more accessible. With the addition of their van, they have been able to reach 15-20 each Friday to provide warmth, shelter, and social connection to those who do not have access to such facilities. They spoke about the importance of independence and the impact of social interaction on the van’s visitors; preventing isolation and creating community.

Thanks to the generosity of the Liverpool SOUP audience and donors, the project was awarded £1,911! The money will go towards a new generator for the van to bring light and warmth to their communities, as well as general upkeep of the van to make sure that they can reach as many people as they can for as long as they can.

SOLA Arts is actively accepting donations of toiletries for newly arrived people and art supplies for sessions in the van, and with your support, they can make a bigger difference. Follow them on Instagram and give their website a read for more information.
